The Doan Law Firm Lifeguard Heroes Scholarship

When the weather gets warm, lifeguards are tasked with saving people from drowning at swimming pools, resorts, beaches, and lakes. This job demands vigilance and the ability to jump into action at a moment’s notice.

As advocates for the families of drowning victims, The Doan Law Firm knows that a quick response from a trained attendant can make all the difference. We are opening the Lifeguard Heroes Scholarship to support current and former lifeguards who are pursuing a college degree. Each semester, we will award ﬁve students with scholarships in the amount of $1000.

Are You Eligible For This Scholarship?

To qualify for the Lifeguard Heroes Scholarship, you must meet all of the following requirements:

You must have held a position as a lifeguard for at least one year or be currently working as a lifeguard.
You must be enrolled or planning to enroll in an undergraduate or graduate program within the United States for the Spring 2026 semester.
You must be at least 17 years old.
You must be a citizen of the United States.

How Do Your Apply For This Scholarship?

All applicants for the Lifeguard Heroes Scholarship must answer the following question in a typed essay or as a video response:

What Has Been Your Most Meaningful Accomplishment As A Lifeguard?

Your response should be approximately 500 words or a three-minute video.

We ask that applicants attach proof of enrollment at their university or college. Additionally, you must provide proof of your current or prior employment as a lifeguard (accepted documents include a work log signed by a supervisor).

Your application should be submitted no later than 11:59 PM on 12/01/2025.

How Will Your Application Be Judged?

Your response to the prompt will be judged according to these criteria:

Originality: Do you tell an authentic story that stands out amongst your peers?
Clarity: Do you answer the prompt entirely and clearly?
Presentation: Does your essay read well? Does your video response seem natural?

Once we have judged all submissions, we will notify the ﬁve winners of the Lifeguard Heroes Scholarship via email one month after the deadline.
